#1964: Hangin’ Judge

Retired Skater

What is the inspiration behind your derby name? Working in the legal field, coupled with having no mercy for other teams’ players on the track, led to my derby name. With regard to my number, 1964 is the year the Civil Rights Act was passed. The Civil Rights Act included Title IX which required educational institutions that received federal funding to give equal opportunities to women in athletics. Due to this Act, more women have received athletic scholarships and thus the opportunity for higher education. Wearing this number is tribute to all the women who play or participate in sports.

Best thing about roller derby? Derby builds confidence, teamwork, better health, and camaraderie. My life has been enhanced by the bonds created with my teammates.

What do you do outside of derby? I’m currently in transition.
